[Discussion] Pre-Games As Pathethic Losers (/Affectionate/Pos)

So, some of you who read AO3 fics might get confused by the title, maybe? idk. But I've found that on AO3 at least the only pre-games that really get attention is Shuichi, Kokichi & Kaito which, fine I guess. But I think what gets on my nerves the most is fanon pre-game Shuichi. By which I mean they write him as creepy &/or basically a yandere.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people have to stop writing him like that. "Do What You Want Forever"/Cring Culture Is Dead shouldn't be conditional afterall. But I guess I just, prefer to think of pre-game Shuichi as an autistic shut-in. Not evil, just suckered in by TDR. A pathethic loser. And that's how I would prefer the pre-games in general? Just people who are pathethic or are treated as such (yes, even pre-game Tsumugi. I like to think of her as overworked & underpaid).

I guess it's because how I just, view them as tragic figuers? I won't go into it in this post, but TDR sucks ass already, why wouldn't they go after the vunerable?

HI I HAVE THE AMAMI ASPD HEADCANON! it was born of me kind of seeing his ingame self and going huh... he's really calm in this situation... almost a little TOO calm? and yeah "he's been in another killing game etc etc" but he doesnt rememebr that, i.e. the calmness is just him being Like That. and also his scary sprites like.... it just made me think that something is just a little bit up with him

and the more i looked at him, the more it seemed like the cordiality is... well its not fake per se, but it IS a very carefully manicured mask. i cant really describe it but theres this veneer of artificiality and insincerity that punctuates everything he says and does, it's really fascinating. i also think his having aspd is how tsumugi killed him-- show him the full map so theres nothing left to explore, so he's piss bored, and then give him breadcrumbs so he does some impulsive irrational shit because thats What He Does. like i think its just really tragic to think he had a mental illness that was exploited for television (in 52) then used against him to kill him (in 53.) it very much echoes real life sentiment around pwaspd and how their disorders will be sensationalized to hell and back for any justification anyone gets, then used to vilify them to shut them up

in my hc, both pregame and ingame amami have aspd, its just that ingame amami is a lot better at masking it. like maybe pregame amami was more violent and impulsive and had those scary sprite moments more often, yk? and that yeah he joined danganronpa mainly due to stigma, or hell even the boredom getting really really bad (and also i hc thats where the exploring came from-- the traveling was something he did to deal with his chronic boredom and over time he got known for it)

:0 If you don't mind I wanna adopt that headcanon! Though I'd also like some resources on ASPD if you know them, pretty please. Not because I don't believe you, but because I'd like to learn more about the disorder so I charactize ASPD headcanons &/or characters better (sorry for asking, I'm not the best googler).
