Originating on Tumblr, we’ve noticed around that there was a distinct lack of general servers for the Danganronpa fandom that suited our personal preferences, so we made one! This server, just like the Dreamwidth Community here, is intended to foster and facilitate community within the fandom across the entire series. While this community is open to everyone and will continue to be so, if you are over 18 and want to connect with like-minded Danganronpa folk on Discord, this one is for you!

Notable spaces we have include:

  • Three general discussion channels
  • Specific channels for fan content, including fanart, fanfiction, and meta
  • More to come, with a suggestion box for spaces to be added in the future as the server grows!

Other important features:

  • Fictionfolk and fictive friendly, with Tupperbox and Pluralkit available for system members
  • Doubles friendly, with no doubles list
  • No blacklist, with a general stamp of 18+ to allow for darker topics

An Important Note: While this server is for the most part open to anyone, more than anything we want to facilitate a welcoming space for people to feel open talking about the things they’re interested in, regardless of the nature of the topic. We’re anti-harassment here in every sense of the word, and so to maintain that, we ask people to submit the following Google Form to agree to our guidelines in order to receive an invite link. No exceptions.

If all that sounds like you cup of tea, you can submit our agreement form, which we've established to ensure people going in are aware of the rules. We look forward to seeing you there!

Because I need to work on this au more, and vary the systems more.

Now out of Tsubaki & Murphy (both are the host(s) I guess? They both identify as Tsumugi), Tsubaki def if the nicer of the two, but Murphy fronts enough that ppl get whiplash when Tsumugi is suddenly a lot meaner and/or says something out of line (though Tsubaki also says some real weird shit here and there).

They've got a couple other headmates, a lot of them being willowgenically created by Tsubaki and/or Murphy and/or the whole system (some fictives were done on accident though, not that they're upset about it). The headspace too is likely willowgenically created, or at least heavily shaped (personally I imagine it as a large house where every room is bigger on the inside).

The Tsumugis are the usual fronters, but sometimes some of the fictives use the fact they're good at cosplaying to make their canon* clothing (taste) & go around fronting in them. This has caused Tsumugi to gain a reputation for roleplaying at odd times, and find her oddly hypocritical for how she views other cosplayers.

As for the system itself, I imagine its several overlapping clusters which can communicate just fine unless they're fronting (with exception of Tsubaki & Murphy, who always can hear eachother to some degree).

--- (unrelated to this) Tsumugi Shirogane (she/her)
Now, to clear up first idk too much robots, but idk if V3 does either, so excuse any wack robot stuff.

But what I just thought of that how Kiibo could've become plural is that all/most of his headmates were actually beta/alpha versions of Kiibo that Dr. Idabashi was working on. I imagine he might've tried to smooth the programs over, but Kiibo seemed to function well enough where he just let Kiibo's circuits be.

Now, would most if any of these headmates be fully develped? I don't know. But I imagine for safety and circuit effeciancy, the headmates settled themselves into multiple layers of systems: some headmates are within sub-systems, or are heavily depended on eachother custers.

Either way Kiibo would be semi-aware of them, but imagines them as his inner voice. The headmates have varient opinions on how to feel about this, though most just care about staying functioning enough that Dr. Idabashi doesn't try to "rectify" the odd code within his kid.

Screw it! 2 possts in the same day! this time we've got Shuichi and his messy relationship with Miyako.

Basically; Miyako is the core while Shuichi is the current host. Baiscally Miyako is who originally had the body, but after living with the uncle & aunt, Shuichi started forming till he started transitioning to male, which caused Miyako to fully go dormant.

Now, for years Shuichi thought he was the only one in the body. That changed around a week before he went to HPA, which had Miyako woke up again, still around 10, and very upset how much had changed since she last was consious. Shuichi isn't the most comfortable around Miyako because she gives him dysphoria, but doesn't try to upset her further because she didn' ask for this either. Usually he tries to placate her by letting her have (monitered) access to the internet to be the fangirl she is (has an AO3 account, has a tumblr. Even if Shuichi has to repeat the ground rules he set with her). Shuichi usually tries to get Miyako to sleep during class, because he doesn't want her getting exposed to much to sexual content & such (thanks Miu -_-)

Shuichi is very cagey with letting Miyako front, because he doesn't feel like HPA is a safe place for her.
More "HPA no despair but V3's class is all plural systems". This time it's Kaito& turn! Thank you [tumblr.com profile] imperfectapollo for the shared braincell ^_^

So the idea we had for (one of) Kaito's headmate(s) is that he's a protector, but kinda sucks in that self-imposed job.

Basically; Kaito was physically abused as child which is why he was taken away from his parents. Kaito doesn't remember anything about the abuse, but Kansei does. Kansei does and has been hypervigilant in headspace ever since. Kaito isn't aware of Kansei, nor is he awake/consious when Kansei is fronting (nor can they telepathically communicate). But Kansei does love and care for Kaito, and wants to keep Kaito safe. So over the years Kansei has force-fronted to get into fights with people he percieves as a threat.

Now Kaito isn't consious till after the fights were over for a bit, and always got into trouble for them. Kaito's hero complex has partcially develped from needing to be in the right despite getting into fights appartly? Now: Kaito is aware *something* is happening which is causing these blackouts & fights, but he's unaware of plurals so he doesn't connect the dots.

But once he gets to HPA, and the plural systems starts being known about... "hey wait a second-"

---Shuichi Saihara (he/him)
So, I wanna create this AU where it's a "V3 is class 79 in a non-despair HPA" but with the twist of "whoops! they're all plural systems!". I do have a couple thoughts/ideas floating around for this AU, but the one I arguebly have the best vision of outside of Korekiyo but we're not talking about him! is Angie being a 2 person system (at least, that I know of rn);

Basically the idea behind this is that Atua/Angie's god is actually her headmate. IIRC Angie mentioned, or at least heavily implied to have become the prophet of her community at a very young age. I don't think its ever stated when or how. But I imagine it must've been a very stressful thing for her, even if she seems to have accepted this fact about her life. My thought is that at some point after becoming prophet, her brain develped a 2nd identity to be the God that people are looking for in her. This wouldn't change too much about canon IMO, because Angie already describes her doing art as her essentially getting possessed by her God. I'm not saying this to say her headmate has the actual skills, but perhaps Angie struggles with creativity & her headmate gives her the ideas / visions of what could be.

Would this headmate (who'll I'll refer to as Autumn) be aware they're not God? Originally I had thought not. That they're aware of it & is hidding this fact from Angie. But now I wonder if they have deluded themselves into believing they're God, or at least the actual prophet? I'm getting intriged by this idea, so for now I'll go this route. Besides it's not impossible for that to happen if everyone around them is convined that they are (including their headmate).

My thought for a story/arc around them is that Autumn eiter admits to, or now realizes, that they're not God, at least not in the way Angie & her community thought so. And basically they and Angie have to deal not only with a falling out between them, but also the fear of what their community would think. If family would be another stressor depends on what the OCs I create to be like. But either way both these guys would have an identity crisis.

I keep remembering that Kiyo from DanganRonpa V3 resonates with Medusa & it keeps driving me insane (Note: a lot of these observations have been informed or taken from [tumblr.com profile] doritofalls on their tag “Korekiyo Shinguji”, so give those a look if you want).

Again, arguably a stretch, but I still go insane over it.

So yesterday I made an overview post about thoughts I had about how Kokichi would fit into class 77B from SDR2 and how he might do better there. Today, I want to start with what I believe to be the microcosm of each class: the protagonists. In particular, how Hajime approaches his classmates, how Shuichi approaches Kokichi, and how I feel Hajime would be different about it. Enjoy!

More lies... )

Series Index

Like, I dunno. I just feel like they would have been much more willing to work with him rather than fight against him like the V3 cast constantly does. In particular, one of the things that makes a notable difference between 77B and V3 is this:

Flexibility for Individuality and Willingness to Address Other Points of View

Class 77B are all much more understanding of one another’s neuroses and make room for each other in a way that the V3 cast just doesn’t. They communicate a lot more in a way that makes everyone feel included, and everyone has room to voice their concerns and have them taken seriously. V3 by contrast is almost always arguing in a way where everyone is fighting to be heard, but no one is actually listening.

Mahiru voices her complaint over Twogami appointing himself as leader, and discussion follows to why exactly Twogami would be the best fit for the position anyway, assuaging her concerns. There are misunderstandings between them, like with the intentions behind Hiyoko’s shrine being misconstrued as malicious due to her poor taste, but those feelings and intentions are discussed and everyone comes around fairly quickly. Fuyuhiko throws his weight around a lot in the beginning as a the Ultimate Yakuza, and even threatens to kill, but everyone at the very least recognizes this as posturing and leaves him alone until he’s able to come around. The only genuine threat is Nagito, who takes clear and focused action to cause harm in chapter 1, and even then he is simply tied up for a single chapter. He’s still taken care of and acknowledged as a member of the group by others in the class, and when he falls ill to the Despair Disease, he is given extra care due to his weak constitution.

In that sense, I feel like they would be a lot more willing to make room for and work with Kokichi’s particular ways of coping and engaging with others, because they understand that everyone in the class has their “thing” that makes them who they are. They’re going to work with those things to make sure everyone is on the same page and everything gets done.

Unlike the rest of his classmates, Kokichi himself is also flexible in this way. He bounces off of people in whatever way he thinks would work best with them, and is only met with resistance from the V3 cast specifically because of his own neuroses and coping mechanisms with regard to lying and making jokes and pranks to lighten the mood. You could argue a lot of his jokes are kind of mean-spirited, but they frankly pale in comparison to Hiyoko’s unprompted bullying and Fuyuhiko’s blatant grandstanding. He leads people around during class trials, but Nagito does that too, and is honestly a lot more condescending about it. Even so, everyone in the class is willing to hear him out and follow along if it means getting to the bottom of things. That’s the thing that separates them from the V3 cast, who go out of their way to try to shut Kokichi down simply because they think he’s just fucking with them. Class 77B understands that whatever the others are saying, there’s a reason behind it, and so are willing to pursue the issue to find out where it might go.

This is just a general overview of the of the vibe, but I have thoughts of lots of the classmates' individual dynamics with Kokichi as well in a sort of vague "SDR2 but Kokichi is Inexplicably There Also" AU—not quite a fanfic or rewrite, but more an exploration via meta posts. I have some posts already on Tumblr, but I want to crosspost them over here before continuing the series. This post is kind of an introductory post to the eventual series and the concept and for general thoughts if anyone wants to add anything.

Man, you ever think about how Ouma was probably super betrayed by Akamatsu’s actions in V3? You ever think about how, at least in canon, he probably had a lot of resentment towards her, not even just because she murdered someone, but on the grander scale of the fact she literally made the single worst mistake any leader possibly could?

That is, assuming you are unequivocally morally just because you want what’s best for everyone and thus know better than everybody else in the room.

You ever think about how that one thing was what led her to the conclusion that she could totally do whatever she wanted if she felt it would be in the group’s best interest, even if she KNEW they wouldn’t like it, evidenced by the fact she felt the need to sneak around behind Saihara’s back? You ever think about how she absolutely wasn’t prepared for the consequences of those actions when she inevitably was proven that she WAS fallible?

You ever think about how Ouma, with his own experiences in leadership, is intimately familiar with how DANGEROUS those types of leaders are? You ever think about how he put his trust in her to take a back seat and let her lead the group anyway? And then it blew up in both their faces.

You ever think about how even after the fact, he couldn’t bring himself to blame her for her inexperience? You ever think about he on record, in canon, blamed himself for being useless instead? You ever think about how being the true leader in the room just by Talent and knowing how dangerous it is for a leader to ignore their capacity for error and making bad decisions, he went through the entire rest of the killing game acutely aware of his responsibility for every single bad thing that happened from then on? You ever think about how Akamatsu and her mistake probably haunted him?

I think about it a lot.

Like, do you ever wonder how fucked up it was that Ouma ended up pushed into a role within the group where he had no choice but to do what Akamatsu did and make big mistakes for the good of the group? Because over the course of the game they kept writing him off and by the time things were getting really bad they wouldn’t have listened to him so he was forced to pull an Akamatsu about it?

You ever think about how he sets out to avoid Akamatsu’s mistake in chapter 2, by proposing the Motive Video Watch Party so that everyone was privy to the same information and no one would slip through the cracks again like Akamatsu did? You ever think about how it was Saihara, who was radicalized by Akamatsu’s tragedy in the opposite direction because he doesn’t have Ouma’s expertise of leadership and transparency, who thought that was a bad idea and shut Ouma out of this plan?

You ever think about how Ouma makes a point to be involved in as much as possible so that he can keep tabs on things (the Motive View Party, the seance, helping Miu set up the computer), but no one actually listens to his proposals so he ends up having to make decisions on his own the way Akamatsu did? You ever think about how this blockage in communication ended up putting Ouma in a corner where he couldn’t be upfront with anyone but a select few people?

You ever think about how this ultimately results in his hand being forced to stoop to Akamatsu’s level and scheme behind everyone’s backs, resulting in the deaths of not one but two more people?

You ever think that since he’s been acutely aware of the responsibility of a leader to shoulder the blame for bad things happening, that just as he blamed himself and his own inaction for Akamatsu’s mistake, he was very much of the idea that this whole outcome was entirely his own fault, due to his own failings as a leader, because if he had just been good enough, none of this would have happened?

You ever wonder if he thinks he’s worse than Akamatsu because of it?

Food for thought.

You ever think about how Ouma actually did want to trust everyone so damn badly? I do.

It’s in the passive back seat he took in Chapter One, where he allowed Akamatsu to take the wheel and only stepped in when things got really bad and they needed to pivot (see: The Death Road of Despair).

It’s in the way he easily gave in to the peer pressure of everyone else wanting to use the Flashback Lights when he himself was against it.

It’s in the fact that rather than agree with everyone that the Motive Videos shouldn’t be watched, rather than try to steal them all to hoard and keep away from everyone or outright destroy them so no one could watch them, he suggested watching them all together as a group, so they could all hold each other accountable.

And even as that trust was slowly and methodically broken down by the killing game, even as he continues to lie and starts to act like he doesn’t trust anyone and nobody should trust him either, he still wants to trust them so, so bad.

It’s in the fact that even though he outed Harukawa for her lie, and made jabs at her expense, he passively allowed Momota to handle the situation without much of a fight and even walked back on his claim that he agreed with everyone who wanted to keep her away, and didn’t question her presence in the group again after that, almost as if her reintegration into the group and everyone reestablishing trust with her was his goal from the start.

It’s in the concern he had over the dangers of cult mentality and Yonaga’s affect on the members of the student council.

It’s in his open admission to how he was injured when he tripped on the loose floorboard during the investigation, rather than insisting the blood was fake and that the entire thing was a lie.

It’s in the way he was the first to notice and properly call out Yumeno’s aversion to confronting and processing her emotions over Yonaga and Chabashira’s death, something even Chabashira herself failed to do when she was alive.

It’s all over his entire relationship with Iruma, commissioning his tools from her and including her in his plans up until she falls to the pressure of the killing game herself.

It’s in his relationship with Gokuhara up until the very end, the one remaining person who trusted him in return, and his absolute devastation over losing him.

It’s in the loss of Gokuhara being the straw that broke the camel’s back, dropping him entirely into a pit of despair and paranoia and resolution to keep everyone as far away from him as he possibly can.

And even then…

It’s in the fact when he enacts the Mastermind plan, he takes Momota with him, arguably the one who’s openly disagreed with him the most out of anyone.

It’s in the way his final, last-ditch plan invaluably relied on his trust in others. Not just Momota, who had the plausible deniability of blackmail, but Saihara, too, to see through everything and figure out what Ouma was trying to do before it was too late.

He wanted to trust everyone. He wanted to trust and befriend everyone so, so, so badly.

But the killing game punished him every time he tried.

Has anyone ever noticed that? The Danganronpa fandom, at least publicly, seems to be so very, very quiet. I don't really know if that's something unique to Danganronpa itself or unique to this day and age, but it's so... difficult to facilitate extended discussion or community engagement in public spaces.

Now, the reason I put this here on Dreamwidth honestly isn't a dig, rather it's because this community and the inherent nature of Dreamwidth makes it much more likely to foster an actual discussion. If I were to post this on Tumblr, I doubt there would be much discussion to be had. The post may get some likes, maybe a single reblog, but other than that? No one would actually answer, I don't think.

Granted, talk of notes just kind of makes me sound like a whiner over engagement, doesn't it? But that's not really the issue here. The issue is nobody talks to anybody, for whatever reasons, and that's so weird to me. Fandom is about collaboration and building off of one another, isn't it? Why is it so quiet, then?

More lies... )

So, ngl Rantaro's backstory was the one that took me out the narrative of V3 the most. Yes not even Gonta "jk about the wolves I was raised by reptoids" took me out as much as Rnataro losing 12 sisters did. I've grown on it a bit, but its still quite ubsurd that Rantaro's parents would let him still after his sisters after losing the 3rd one.

Either that or Rantaro's parents wanted the sisters gone for whatever reason & let them go missing* on purpose, as [tumblr.com profile] imperfectapollo suggested to me. Which could add a layer why Rantaro doesn't really speak about them.

I'm sure in canon, Tsumugi was just being overly dramatic in her writing of Rantaro's backstory. But I'm curious what explanations you could come up for in AUs where Rantaro actually has 12 sisters.
